It took 136 days, 11 states, 23 national/state parks, and 43 campgrounds but it finally happened. We found a campsite we could not fit Bob T into. We tried for over 45 minutes to back him into site 113 at Fallen Leaf Campground at Lake Tahoe (henceforth to be called “Fallen Dignity State Park”). Too many trees and well-placed granite boulders. We cleared them all but the poor flowers never stood a chance.
All was not lost. There was one open pull-through spot available (I know, right?) and the manager pointed us toward it when Kevin went back to the gate to admit defeat. We not only fit but we had room to spare. Like, at least eighteen feet. The pull-through sites are so large they had to put up a sign telling people they are only allowed to have ONE RV per site (can anyone afford two of these things?). And we had no hecklers when we drove into this one.
To pay homage to the wildflowers that gave their lives for our debacle, I went out and shot a few others (har). I don’t know what these lovely yellow blossoms are called but they are everywhere around here. Definitely not an endangered species.
Unless of course, they happen to be in the way of our behemoth of a rig.
