Another Tillamook-must-see is the Tillamook Air Museum. The consists of a bunch of airplanes, engines, and other cool stuff. But, the most interesting part is the building is actually an old blimp hangar built for World War II. The structure is madealmost entirely out of wood (since all available steel was being used to build boats and airplanes for the war) and can hold eight blimps. I'm gonna say that again. Eight blimps. But why would you need blimps for the war? Submarines. The subs could torpedo boats and escape without anyone seeing them. But a blimp flying a few hundred feet above the water could see the subs coming before they caused any trouble. But why blimps? Why not airplanes? My guess is that airplanes would be flying to fast for pilots to be able to patrol the water thoroughly. However, blimps are slower so they could find the subs and even take them out.
