This morning we pulled up anchors (which takes a good hour) and headed north. We crossed the Florida-Georgia border for the last time until the end of the year. I drove again. Man, I love driving this thing, as long as I don't think about how absolutely monstrous it is. Roughly 55 feet long and eleven tons. Do not pass me on the right. There will be an entire blog post on how NOT to drive near really large vehicles some time in the near future. Our first real stop is Franklin, NC, but we wanted to break the drive up a bit since getting to a campsite after dark is no fun. We stopped in Cordele at the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park. It's quite nice and really quiet. We have a site on the river that Kevin backed into on the first try. Our only mishap was getting so close to the utility box that we almost tagged it when the sliders were extended. AND, this is huge, NOTHING fell over inside. Well, a closet rod came down, but it was pretty minor. Camping is so much more fun when you don't have to spend 45 minutes reorganizing the stuff you spent the previous day organizing. Of course we made a fire and had dinner outside and had s'mores for dessert. We finished off the night by tossing random burn-worthy objects into the fire, mostly food wrappers. But the best was the cardboard box from the wheel chocks. It went up in such a blaze Kevin had to scoot his chair back mighty fast. This photo (above) makes it look way bigger as I used a slow shutter speed. The photo to the left is a teaser shot of the inside of Bob T. A full video tour is coming soon. As a side note for Kim, we did stop at our first truck stop. Our whole driving experience is now one of asking ourselves, "Can we fit in there and get back out again?" And since the truck takes deisel truck stops are the way to go. I was expecting a pretty burly atmosphere but everyone was clean cut and ridiculously polite and friendly. And they were playing a Chris Tomlin CD and running a special on Gatorade. It may be too soon to judge, but so far I like truck stops.

Once you get into Franklin, you're not too far from Waynesville, home of our favorite coffee shop, Panacea. Look them up here: http://panaceacoffee.com/roasting/ Comments are closed.
