Most of the time we were in west Texas we kept seeing these gorgeous hillsides blanketed in golden brown grasses with dark brown boulders scattered across them. It gave me a serious jones for some chocolate chip cookies and we finally got a chance to make them. But it required a trip to Stuff Mart (Target) first because not one of the three (yes, three - don't judge) cookie sheets I packed fit in the oven. Because this RV has thirteen feet of kitchen counter space and an oven that is only appropriately sized for a small family of ferrets. So we got our smallish cookie sheet and made our cookies and did some traditional school work and ate more cookies. Then we hit a museum.
What this campground lacks in natural beauty it makes up for in.... um....okay, it doesn't really make up for it. Except for the hot tub. That lone item changed my opinion in a big way. But honestly, for me there is nothing in the world like being out in the boonies and hearing coyotes yipping at night. Or being able to search for javelinas or see a zillion stars. Here I can hear Sea World's fireworks at night. That's only charming if you did NOT grow up in Orlando. But that's not to say there aren't some great things about our site. We have full hook-ups (hot shower every night!!!) and an ice cream parlor and cool Canadian neighbors. I've met a lot of nice Canadians on this trip. Are Canadians like the Texans of Canada? They're all just super nice. Anyway, it's good to have nice neighbors when you are packed in like Vienna sausages. Really, if I sneezed quietly I wouldn't be surprised if the folks next door heard it and said, "God bless you," in their cool Canuck accents. We are that close. It looks like this:
We also got to attend BSF, Bible Study Fellowship, which also only works out for us when we are in larger cities. That's another thing you ought to check out if you haven't ever. I wish we had joined years ago. Find a class near you at bsfinternational.org.
And on that note, I am signing off for the night because it's really late and I need to get my sleep so I can further torture the young Padawans with more math and writing in the morning. Then maybe we will go enjoy one more big California city advantage: In-and-Out Burger.
