On Tuesday Kevin took all the kids (Boyinks and Keiters) to the Udvar-Hazy which is an extension of the National Air and Space Museum and Mike, Crissa, and I went the other way. At this point I was pretty much airplaned out but I never get tired of repulsive medical and biological oddities. This museum is a military collection of bones, organs, tissues, surgical instruments, microscopes, war hospital relics and even the bullet that killed Abraham Lincoln.
I didn't take a lot of photos in here, partly because I don't really need them. The image burned in my head is enough to make me want to dunk my brain in Betadine as it is. But mainly, I did not want to get nasty messages in the comment feed blaming me for the destruction of your keyboards when you scrolled down to the shot of the elephantiasis of the scrotum specimen. It is all I can do to feel okay about sharing the image of President Lincoln's hair and bone fragments in little glass jars. Crissa and I were wondering what possessed the doctors to set those things aside. He explained why he kept the bullet, but no mention is made of why he kept his blood-stained shirt cuff in an envelope then turned it over to the military a few weeks later.
With all our major medical advancements, there are some things we will never know.
