There is also a lemur sanctuary, and thankfully they are pretty quiet. I was a bit afraid we might be awakened in the wee hours by a rowdy band of primates and the throbbing pulse of deep bass dance music. But it turns out they don't actually like to move it, move it. Anyway, most mornings of the week at 10:00 a.m. MIss Libby gives a wonderfully fun and informative talk and passes around some feathered friends. So what follows is a whole lot of photos of my kids and Nana with birds on their heads.
This is Miss Libby with a bird whose name I cannot recall, but he is native to Australia where it is legal to shoot them (because they can be destructive to crops). It is also illegal to export them so here in the US they fetch roughly $2000. I would like a bird who could fetch that kind of change. It would also be nice if it would fetch me the remote and a beverage.
Fred, the very gentlemanly and well-behaved macaw. He is 53 years old.
Pumpkin is a lover. He looks like a sunset.
That bird is trying to preen her hair.
This bird loved Kristin.
Bird on ma head!!!!
Someone offered to handle my camera so I could hold Fred and have a photo.
A very talkative conure. I think it was a conure. It is from South America and it's name is Rico. Or maybe not. We met a lot of birds. I got confused. I am much better at this thing when we are talking about rocks.
His feathers are just AMAZING, no?
